I lead with “Less” as my father recently passed away (no need for “so sorry”s we were not very close, and it was not unexpected and I don’t need reminding any more than this post already does) and I stand to inherit a not-insubstantial sum. A large portion of it is tied up in a well managed trust (and will stay there, earning income and funding retirement) and the larger portion of the cash will go toward a house. This leaves me with oppo-cisions to make...

oppotion 1) Trade in the FieSTa and get a Focus RS. I refuse to buy until I have driven one, so this is year away probably. Maybe more.

oppotion 2) Keep the FieSTa and buy a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! it.

oppotion 3) Convince myself to buy a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (even though I have no desire to own a bike with that much power) and keep the FieSTa

oppotion 4) ??

I am going to be “responsible” and if oppotion 1 happens I’ll still have my BMW F650 Funduro...

Do you live somewhere that snows? If so, get the RS and get some spiked snow tires and go snow/ice racing.

option 4: keep the fun duro and make it more of a dirt bike. grab a 2nd bike (maybe an SV) as a street.track rat/commuter

or sell the funduro and get the F800GS? i rode one at a BMW camp, its really not that bad

If you live where it doesn’t really snow, why not sell the FiST and buy something cooler and older, like a Terminator Cobra? Then keep the Funduro and buy a Grom for about-town use.

I’ve been there, done that. I just don’t have it in me to own multiple bikes (or cars). For some reason It doesn’t work for me.... my brain goes all wierd and I just end up riding (driving) my favorite one all the time anyway. I like the idea of an RC390, or some other small sport bike, but I don’t know... I’m not... ostentatious(?) enough to own multiple vehicles of the same type. It’s difficult enough for me to own a bike and a car.

Keep the Fiesta and get the 701! I want one so bad!

Close second, Focus RS.

That is exactly the idea that keeps my thinking about the RS... But I’m not a risk taker (except for the fact that I absolutely LOVE riding a motorcycle and you can pry my bike from my cold dead hands, one one day they may have to...) and I also refuse to pay ADM on principle. so the RS choice significantly defers my gratification :P

if you have 2 bikes that do ROUGHLY the same thing, yea, its ostentatious. if they do 2 totally different things, its a lot easier to justify.

I mean, our garage has a F800R and a SV650S ...I prefer the BMW is I have a passeneger for the day, SV if i’m carving corners.

the bigger the difference, the easier it is. do flat out on the enduro build and make it BARELY streetable. then you can justify aniother street bike

There’s a distinct lack of Miata options.

Save it for the house. Chances are you’ll find things the realtor/PO didn’t tell you. If you’re lucky it’ll just be just to renovate those things that you find annoying only after living in a place.

Buy a wrangler and pimp it out for off-roading like crazy

Yeah, that is the smart move... I like the Miata, I really do... But I need room to haul stuff. It’s pretty much the reason I have a FieSTa instead of a 500 Abarth (though I do think I made the right choice, beyond just size) just last week I had four hay bales in my car...

What’s the current purpose of the Fiesta, and would the replacement vehicle do the same thing? While I dig the RS, I just can’t say I’d take that over a WRX (or Forester XT). I just have more faith in Subaru and their AWD than I do Ford’s.

The other (boring) option has already been mentioned. Probably the smart option would be to save that for anything the house might need. Or to buy a cheap(ish) pickup for around the house stuff.

I’ll just chime in on advice for the house: Get more garage than you think you’ll need. Before we bought our house, we were renting a house with a three-car garage. The house I bought has a two-car garage. I miss my old garage.

GF owns a pickup. Friends own pickups. The FieSTa hold plenty of shit. The FieSTa is my daily and AX machine. RS would pull that duty too, albeit with significantly lower fuel economy... not interested in a Subaru. At all. I live in Vermont, Subaru might as well be our state car, and every flat-bill-bro in the state already owns a stanced WRX. I have no desire to be associated with that crowd, even peripherally.

Is there a reason why you have to immediately spend the money anyways?

With some ratchet straps and some creativity you can haul all sorts of stuff with a Miata!

Hmm with all the Suby love in Vermont have you considered an Evo?

Best choice is importing an Evo 1 next year.

Nope, absolutely not (though I WILL be required to take a minimum yearly disbursement from the inherited IRA portion). It literally took me three years the last time I made a major financial decision like this (replacing my 2011 Elantra Touring with something more fun, which eventually ended up being the FieSTa), so I’m getting an early start on the thought process. And quite frankly, it’s a large enough sum that I *CAN* have a little fun with it without impacting my long term plans.

That’s a pain in the ass rule about inherited IRAs, isn’t it? I mean, it’s good to reduce taxes per year, but still...

If it's a year away, I'd start watching the used market for something that you really want, whether it be a FoRS or a two wheeled suicide machine. ;)
